NCS participates at Covid-19 and Maritime Labour Issues: Impacts and Responses.

The Nigerian Chamber of Shipping(NCS) as a member of International Chamber of Shipping(ICS) on Friday, June 5th 2020, participated in a Webinar meeting titled Covid-19 and Maritime Labour Issues: Impacts and Responses.

The meeting was co-organized by the International Labour Organization(ILO) and the International Training Centre of ILO in collaboration with the International Maritime Organization(IMO) and the World Health Organization.
The objective of the meeting was to highlight the concerns affecting the employment of Seafarers’ during the Covid-19 pandemic in light of the provisions of the Maritime Labour Convention 2006 as amended (MLC 2006).

The panellists based on their various perspectives addressed the following issues among others:

  • The relevance of MLC 2006 as amended vis-a-vis the employment of seafarers during Covid-19 pandemic
  • Crew changes and repatriation of Seafarers
  • Seafarers’ access to Medical care
  • Seafarers’ Safety and Health
  • Certificates required by the Maritime Labour Convention
  • Seafarers’ welfare etc                                             

As members, please be informed that the Nigerian Chamber of Shipping is currently working on an arrangement that ensures members equally have direct access to participate in subsequent similar meetings.
