The Director General of the Nigerian Chamber of Shipping (NCS), Mrs. Vivian Chimezie-Azubuike, recently represented the Chamber at the African Strategic Summit on Shipping Decarbonization, held in Abuja. Coordinated by the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, the summit brought together high-level players from around the continent to debate methods for transitioning the African maritime industry toward more environmentally sustainable practices.
The event focused on aligning Africa’s marine industry with global decarbonization goals set by the International Marine Organization (IMO), emphasizing the urgent need to cut greenhouse gas emissions, adopt cleaner energy sources, and implement sustainable shipping solutions. Key talks were around policy development, innovation, collaboration, and capacity building to support the continent’s maritime decarbonization plan.
Mrs. Chimezie-Azubuike, in her capacity as DG, highlighted the Nigerian Chamber of Shipping’s commitment to fostering positive change in the maritime industry. She underscored the Chamber’s determination to support policies and programs that encourage cleaner shipping practices while guaranteeing the growth and competitiveness of Nigeria’s maritime economy.
Her involvement underlined the NCS’s leadership role in developing sustainable maritime practices and its support for the Federal Government’s efforts to position Nigeria as a proactive partner in the global push toward greener shipping and a resilient blue economy.
