The Nigerian Chamber of Shipping (NCS) is the trade association for the Nigerian maritime industry, representing the entire sector and comprising ship owners, tanker vessel operators, port/terminal operators, shipyard/dry dock owners, upstream and downstream service operators in oil and gas sector, international maritime/shipping operators, maritime lawyers, and financial institutions, through which structure the Chamber has a unique and legitimate claim as the umbrella body in Nigeria for stakeholders in the shipping /maritime sector.
AIMS
The aim of Nigerian Chamber of Shipping is to act as an advocate for the industry on issues of shipping policy (formulation, implementation and monitoring), maritime affairs, technical matters such as administration/ management, safety, operations, and to promote best practice among members to meet international standards.
OBJECTIVES
- Promote and protect the interest of its members, securing for them maximum participation in Nigeria’s domestic and international shipping trade.
- Encourage effective and efficient operation among members, abreast with international standards.
- Support and facilitate the growth and development of regional, continental and international trade in and outside Nigeria.
- Cooperate with other agencies, statutory and non-statutory, to ensure implementation of a regulated environment that ensures effective maritime administration, safe shipping operations, and fair and competitive shipping cost regimes.
- Ensure that professionalism is maintained within the pursuit for local capacity building and in line with obligations for national associations.
- Strive for professionalism and level playing field for all operators in the development and implementation of local content.
