The Nigerian Chamber of Shipping (NCS) in accordance with its core mandate, aims and objectives strive to encourage, position and empower members, new entrants and key players in the Maritime/Shipping industry to take full advantage of opportunities created by its capacity building program.
In the light of the above, NCS organised a Dry Cargo training programme; the first for the year on March 14th – 15th, 2019 at DRV Place Oniru Private Estate Beside Four Points by Sheraton Victoria Island Lagos. This training course ran back to back with the flagship training programme of the Chamber called the ABC of Shipping.
The objective of the Dry Cargo Trading and Chartering course is to provide basic and advanced knowledge of various aspects of commercial, legal and practical shipping operations covered under the various modules of the programme ranging from Introduction to World Trade and Emerging trends in global trade, Cargo types, Ship types, Letters of Credit & INCOTERMS, Contract terms, Cargo Insurance, description, measurements and Shortages as well as Voyage Estimating, Dispute Resolution Methods, Laytime and Demurrage .
Participants at the just concluded training programme which cuts across Insurance, Freight Forwarding, Petrochemical, Oil and Commodity trading Companies while facilitation was done by Dr. Oluwole Akinyeye – Head Maritime Unit, Olisa Agbakoba Legal and Dr. Eugene Nweke – Former President, National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF).
On completion of this two-day training programme, participants from their comments and various interviews conducted had a clearer understanding of dry bulk cargo operations, chartering and how trading impacts shipping.
Another session of this quarterly training programme facilitated by the Nigeran Chamber of Shipping is scheduled to hold in June 2019.
