Report: ABC of Shipping March 2019

The ABC of Shipping is the flagship training program of the Nigerian Chamber of Shipping organized on a quarterly basis and designed to introduce the shipping industry and highlight the various investment opportunities that abound in the maritime sector.

Apart from serving as a good refresher course for existing practitioners, it equally provides requisite foundational knowledge essential to operate in the Nigerian maritime industry as well as a good entry point for those who aspire to build rewarding careers in the industry.

Following from the above and in conformity with the advocacy mandate of the Chamber, the 2019 first quarter edition of the training programme took place from 12th-13th March 2019 at DRV Place Oniru Private Estate beside Four Points by Sheraton, Victoria Island Lagos.

The training programme, the first for this year had in attendance top management staff from the Oil & Gas and Maritime sectors.

Based on the dynamic nature of the maritime industry and to ensure the relevance of the course in the day-to-day shipping operations, the Chamber of Shipping introduced new modules namely;

  • Cabotage: Challenges & Way Forward.
  • Local Content: Walking the talk.
  • Maritime Security: An Overview.
  • The Environment: Health & Safety.

All these modules are not only meant to broaden participants knowledge about the industry but also to bring them up to speed on latest developments as it affects shipping and other maritime activities in line with international best practices.
